Full re-roofs, stripped and re-laid to last

A few slipped or cracked tiles is a repair. Widespread nail fatigue, tiles delaminating across the whole slope, daylight through the felt or a ridge that moves in the wind usually means the roof has reached the end of its life, and repairing it becomes a rolling cost. We look, tell you which one you have and quote for that, not for the biggest job we can think of.

A dry ridge fixes the ridge tiles down mechanically with screws, clamps and a ventilated roll instead of bedding them on mortar. Mortar cracks with frost and movement and ends up needing repointing every few years; a dry ridge does not. It also ventilates the roof space, which cuts condensation. We fit an all-new dry ridge system on our re-roofs as standard, so the top of the roof is maintenance free.

A typical three-bed semi runs about a week from scaffold up to scaffold down, depending on the weather and what we find under the old coverings. Larger roofs, multiple pitches and structural repairs add time. The roof is never left open overnight; each section is stripped, felted and made weathertight the same day.

Almost always. Pantiles, plain tiles, concrete interlockers and natural slate are all still made in the common profiles and colours, and reclaimed tiles cover the rest. We bring samples up rather than asking you to choose from a website photo.

Usually not, a like-for-like re-roof is normally permitted development. Conservation areas and listed buildings are the exception, where the covering may have to match what came off. We work around Bedale, Richmond and the Dales, so it comes up regularly and we will tell you straight if your house is affected.

Yes. The workmanship is guaranteed and the materials carry their manufacturers’ guarantees on top, and membranes and dry ridge systems are specified from proper merchants, not whatever is cheapest that week. You get it in writing with the quote.
